Val di Fassa – for lovers of freeride

The Val di Fassa region is also well-equipped with well-prepared slopes, huge snow parks with curious obstacles, and modern, swift, recently updated lifts. And very soon these places can become famous as the Italian capital of freeriding: in the winter season 2011/12 in Val di Fassa, two new freeride tracks will open for fans of off-piste skiing. So skiers and snowboarders who love freedom and extreme sports, have decent skills and do not want to ride on marked routes crowded with people, will have the opportunity to test themselves on dizzy slopes.

Not far from San Pellegrino, the first experimental project of a freeride park in Trentino was created – an area officially designated for “free” descent, where it is allowed to ride legally, without worrying that you will be interested in the mountain police. The park is located on the northern slopes of Col Margherita, at an altitude of more than 2500 meters, which guarantees beautiful snow. Rescue services are on duty nearby, snow conditions are constantly monitored, and in case of danger of an avalanche or poor visibility, a special signal will be transmitted. You can easily climb the new freeride track on the Col Margherita carriage rail: from its top point you will see more than 800 meters of a slope covered with snow dunes.

Another area where the Val di Fassa officially authorized freeride is called Toe and is located in the heart of the sunny Belvedere Valley near Canazei. Here, athletes can try their hand at a picturesque slope a kilometer long with a vertical drop of 303 meters. Strong emotions and breathtaking views are guaranteed!

The rest of the skiers and snowboarders who want to ride on the tested and rammed tracks can ride 220 kilometers of routes, among which the “blue” and “red” slopes predominate, most suitable for athletes with an average level of training. They should buy the Val di Fassa-Carezza ski pass in order to use the ski lifts from Canazei to Passo di Costalunga, or the TreValli ski pass, which will allow you to enjoy skiing throughout Moen – Val di Fiemme. And the fastest is better to think about the more expensive ski pass Dolomiti Superski, with which you will own 500 kilometers of various routes, not only Val di Fassa, but also the neighboring Val di Fiemme and San Martino di Castrozza.

Several fanparks are open for your children in Val di Fassa, where there are attractions for even the smallest athletes. If you decide to take seriously the ski training of the heirs, then in any ski school they will be warmly welcomed by an instructor-educator.
For those who want to spend evenings not only in restaurants and bars, Val di Fassa has prepared yet another surprise this year: after a breathtaking off-piste ride, you can relax in the newly opened water center in Canazei: go for a swim in the large pool or splashing among waterfalls and whirlpools. From there you can go to the Eghes spa, where they practice bioclimatological procedures according to the principles of ancient Roman baths.
